Money in Marriage

Iowa legalized same-sex marriage in 2009.  It's turned out to be a smart business move, according to a study released yesterday by the California-based Williams Institute.

Gays and their wedding guests added between $12 and $13 million to Iowa's economy in 2009 and 2010.

With the country in dire financial shape, can states afford to turn up their noses at this ready source of income?  Instead, shouldn't governors pledge to officiate at same-sex weddings?  Shouldn't legislatures pass tax breaks for gifts of stemware?

In the noble cause of the economic well-being of this nation, it's time for states like, say, Wyoming to launch a "Git Your Gay Selves Hitched Here" campaign.
