Fred Phelps' Frozen Foe Across the Street

Time to Catch Up . . . to Ourselves

This Week's Quote

New Rule: Gay marriage won't lead to dog marriage. It is not a slippery slope to rampant inter-species coupling. When women got the right to vote, it didn't lead to hamsters voting. No court has extended the equal protection clause to salmon. And for the record, all marriages are “same sex” marriages. You get married, and every night, it's the same sex.

A Whiz-Bang Wedding

The Senator's Evolution

The LGBT blogosphere blazed yesterday with the news that Republican Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio has become the first sitting GOP senator to support same-sex marriage.  His longstanding opposition evaporated after learning his son is gay.

I'm thrilled the conservative has changed positions.  But why does someone like Portman get a clue and a heart only after the issue touches him personally?  Why couldn't he hear the pain of other parents of gays?  We do have parents.  We don't spring fully-formed from Christopher Street.

A Pall Over Puget Sound

A pall has descended on the lesbians of the Seattle area.  Or at least on me.

The Seattle Storm announced this week that star point guard Sue Bird will not play the entire upcoming season due to surgery for a knee cyst.  Storm fans had already been told that Lauren Jackson, Seattle's All-World forward, would miss the 2013 season to rehab a hamstring injury.  Bird and Jackson are franchise players and the faces of the team.

I shall be wearing black for the indefinite future.
